New Delhi.The BJP is going to win comfortably in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, according to a number of exit polls shown on Thursday across TV channels soon after the second phase of elections in politically volatile Gujarat ended.

Elections were held of 182 assembly seats in Gujarat and 68 seats in Himachal Pradesh. Gujarat has a BJP government while Himachal Pradesh a Congress government.

Elections for Himachal Pradesh were held on November 9 while in Gujarat they were held in two phases on December 9 and December 14. The results will be declared officially on December 18.

An exit poll by the India Today-Axis predicted 99 to 113 seats for BJP and 68 to 82 seats for Congress in Gujarat, which has a total of 182 seats. Times Now-VMR exit poll on the other hand predicted that the BJP would get 109 seats while Congress 61 seats. The Republic-CVoter exit polls gave similar tally for BJP (108) giving 74 to Congress.

According to an exit poll by ABP-CSDS, BJP would get 117 seats leaving 70 seats to the Congress. The exit poll by NewsX-CSDS put the figure at 115 seats for BJP and 64 for Congress.

In Himachal Pradesh, India Today-Axis poll predicted 47 to 55 seats leaving 13 to 20 seats for the Congress. Times Now-VMR exit poll predicted that the BJP would bag 51 assembly seats against the Congress’ 17 seats. Republic-CVoter exit polls gave the BJP 41 seats against 25 for the Congress.

The Congress has given a spirited fight, but not declared any one as the chief ministerial candidate in Gujarat. However, it had fielded its incumbent chief minister Virbhadra Singh as its chief ministerial candidate in Himachal Pradesh to fight against Prem Kumar Dhumal of the BJP.
